PR Newswire reports that Abbott has completed its acquisition of Exact Sciences, strengthening its position in the fast-growing cancer screening and diagnostics market. As a result of the transaction, Exact Sciences is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Abbott, and its shares have been delisted from the Nasdaq.
The acquisition expands Abbott’s capabilities in early cancer detection and precision diagnostics, adding a portfolio of established products and a pipeline of next-generation tests. These include Cologuard, a noninvasive colorectal cancer screening test, Oncotype DX for guiding breast cancer treatment decisions, and additional tools designed to detect cancer earlier and monitor recurrence.
The deal positions Abbott to advance more preventative, predictive, and personalized approaches to healthcare, while expanding its reach in a market estimated at $60 billion in the U.S. alone. It also supports the company’s broader strategy of increasing access to diagnostic tools and improving patient outcomes through earlier detection.
By integrating Exact Sciences’ expertise and technologies, Abbott aims to enhance its global diagnostics platform and serve a larger patient population as demand for cancer screening and precision medicine continues to grow.
