eBay has announced a new initiative aimed at supporting small businesses across the United States. Through its recently launched “Up & Running Grant” program, the e-commerce company plans to award $10,000 grants to 50 small business owners each year through 2025. By doing so, eBay hopes to empower entrepreneurs, enabling them to sustain and grow their businesses in challenging economic environments.
The grant program targets sellers on eBay who have been active on the platform for at least a year, offer products to a U.S.-based audience, and are small businesses with fewer than 10 employees. Each grant package will include $8,000 in cash, which recipients can use to invest in various business needs, such as inventory, marketing, or technology upgrades. Additionally, small business owners will receive $2,000 worth of eBay credits and perks intended to enhance their online selling experience.
eBay will also provide access to mentorship and resources designed to support business development. Each recipient will get one-on-one coaching from eBay’s Seller School, an educational hub where eBay sellers can learn strategies to optimize their stores, attract customers, and maximize revenue. This combination of financial support and targeted mentorship underscores eBay’s commitment to helping small businesses succeed on its platform.
The grant program, managed in partnership with Hello Alice, a resource platform for small businesses, is specifically geared toward underrepresented groups within the small business community. Hello Alice’s platforms connect entrepreneurs with opportunities and training to help drive success, creating a strong foundation for collaboration with eBay.
Applications for the 2024 grant cycle will open early next year and remain available for several weeks, giving interested small business owners time to present their eligibility. Previously awarded grants have already helped small businesses tackle common barriers—like access to funding and resources—that can hinder growth.
Programs such as this highlight the growing recognition of the challenges small businesses frequently face. Initiatives like the Up & Running Grants aim to address those obstacles and provide long-term support while fostering innovation and resilience in communities across the nation. As eBay continues its commitment to these businesses through 2025, the program may encourage other companies to increase their investments in the small business sector.
