From Service to Startups: National Week Spotlights Veteran Entrepreneurs

National Veterans Small Business Week, held November 3–7, highlights the role entrepreneurship can play in helping former service members find renewed purpose after transitioning to civilian life, Military.com reports. The initiative, backed by the U.S. Small Business Administration, showcases the accomplishments of veteran-owned businesses and offers virtual and in-person events to support aspiring military-connected entrepreneurs, including service members, veterans, Guard and Reserve members, and military spouses.

According to the report, many veterans initially prioritize securing post-service employment, but soon seek something more: a renewed sense of meaning and direction. For some, owning a business becomes a compelling path to channel their skills and leadership experience into a mission-driven career that offers greater personal fulfillment.

National Veterans Small Business Week emphasizes this entrepreneurial transition, sharing real-world examples like veteran business owner Barry Mattson, who found purpose in building a team and serving customers after active duty. Through SBA-led programming and events nationwide, participants receive encouragement and resources designed to help them explore business ownership as a viable and rewarding next step.
