IWG has acquired Special Corde, strengthening its position in the electrical infrastructure market as global demand for electrification continues to rise. The move expands IWG’s ability to supply specialty conductors for power and distribution transformers, a critical component in modernizing electrical grids across North America and Europe.
Special Corde, based in Gioia Sannitica, Italy, brings decades of expertise in manufacturing specialized conductors used in transformer applications and electrical systems. By integrating Special Corde’s capabilities into its network, IWG aims to offer a broader range of high-quality solutions to customers navigating the growing need for resilient and efficient electrical infrastructure.
Gregory Smith, CEO of International Wire Group, said the acquisition aligns with IWG’s long-term strategy to support global electrification initiatives. He noted that Special Corde’s strong engineering culture and product quality make it a natural fit for the company’s expanding portfolio.
As governments and utilities invest heavily in grid modernization and energy transition projects, IWG’s expanded reach positions it to play a larger role supplying the materials needed to upgrade and reinforce electrical systems worldwide.
